Did You Know?:
Dry skin is a skin type where there is extreme shortage of sebum and moisture on the epidermis. This may due to insufficient sebum secretion from sebaceous glands, or external factors such as weather and temperature. Dry skin tends to be uncomfortably tight, dull, saggy. Fine lines and crow feet will be found around eye contour. The skin is thin and pores are small and almost invisible. Skin sloughs off easily. Pigmentation and spots appear. Occasionally itchy.
Your skin will become extremely tight, red and flaky when you are in an air-conditioned room, exposed to strong winds, drops of temperature, or after contact with water.
Ellen's Tips for Aging/Dry Skin
If you feel dry regularly, it is important to make sure you avoid washing your face with hot water as it can further dry out your skin taking with it any natural lipids or oil your skin is producing.
Choosing a proper cleanser that cleans without stripping the skin is key. Our Sensitive Skin Cleansing Milk not only cleanses and hydrates, it aims to restore balance to the skin. Most over-the-counter soaps and many cleansers can strip the skin and clients feel forever dry no matter what they do after cleansing. The appearance of dry skin can vary in degree, however all dry skin must replenish the transepidermal water loss (TEWL), particularly prevalent in very dry, warm climates, as well as cold, dry areas. Several of our serums contain hyluronic acid (aka sodium hyaluronate) which acts as a humectant to draw 10,000 times it weight in water deep into the parched epidermal tissues, thereby giving your skin the “youthful, hydrated glow” and feeling much more supple and normalized. These are referred to as “hydrators.”
